Unforgotten Art

And then it came, the week everyone has talked about since last week, The INTRICT Break Week. The main and the only event prepared for the INTRICT break was the dance number presentation of each group. As each group presented the dance number, it certainly brought us closer as a class simply because we learned something about each of our classmates that we hadn't previously known. Who would have thought a guy with a nickname from a game could dance that well? After each group had presented, one thing was sure, everybody got a satisfaction because of the hard work each had put in for practicing. It was a short moment that could very well last forever for each of us.
We learned:
- Many could dance well in the class.
- Creativity is abundant at S13.
- R and B music is dance music.

INTRICT

This week at INTRICT, databases and networking took center stage as our class were taught about the nature and characteristics of each one. As our professor discussed its uses and overview, we, as a class realized that the importance of networks and databases is constantly increasing in the industry. Moreover, memory sizes were also discussed at one session, off-topic as it may be, it was something that was able to add to our knowledge of technology, mainly data storage.
Thing achieved at INTRICT:
- Created an innovative dance number for Chris Brown's hit song; Forever.
- Learned about memory sizes. 4-16-32.....
- Learned about the Y2k incident and how it affected the computer world.
- Learned about the history of data storage.

Dead Ends

INTRICT this week taught us something new, something we don't come across everyday. For me, I think it taught us the value of hardwork, which I think is essential for IT professionals because as we climb the corporate ladder, we must face challenges of deadlines as well as tough working schedules. Hardwork, I think, is a thing often misunderstood by many, we always come across a person that says "I work hard", but the question is, what qualifies as hard work?. For me, our performance is measured simply by our conscience, therefore we actually cannot tell if we worked hard or not. Hard work is produced when the distinctive balance between planning and realization is achieved, it is a balance that seems so simple yet overlooked by many. Whenever a person creates an impression of himself that he is a hard worker, I realize that he is just making a dead end in his life, simply because by simply judging his own performance only on the realization part, he creates an imaginary boundary on what the future can, and will still hold for him.
INTRICT this week made us realize:
- The value of hardwork: The satisfaction that you get for a job done creates peacefulness that we achieved something for ourselves.
- Standing still: Failures define who we are, moreover how we face them dictates what will happen to us in the future.

Clearer Views

As we grow older, habits, appearance, actions as well as our personality changes. From the time we were born until now, we undergo a transformation unlike any other living thing simply because we undergo not only physical changes, but mentally and psychologically as well. But what exactly fuels the change? Is it the experiences we have? The lessons we learn? The variety of emotions that we feel? For me, I believe it is a combination of all things that makes wonders in our lives. From meeting a new friend to getting enrolled in a good school, I believe the most important thing that starts the change is the change in perspective we have. I think the different perspectives we develop as we grow up affects our actions and the way we think. But the thing that makes us all most unique, is that we are always able to generate a positive outlook in life. Never can we say that the way we view life in particular can't change anymore, because we are bound by infinite possibilities, making us to able to comprehend the things that already happened, the things happening right now, and more importantly the endless situations and possibilities we can still face in the future.

Elections was the main topic this week at our INTRICT class. That's because our discussions centered thoroughly about the different kinds of informations systems that could improve or enhance the current state of the election process. Year in, year out, countless news stories center about votes being manipulated and the elections being a symbol of the severe case of corruption our country's experiencing right now. With that in mind, society has turned for help, and in this case, technology and more importantly, informations systems. With reducing vote manipulation, increasing accuracy, as well as speeding up the process in mind, two IS have been specifically created, the Optical Mark Recognition and the Direct-Recording Electronic. Details about the two machines can be found below:
Optical Mark Reader
- Process is somewhat the same as college entrance tests. (Shading circles and machines checking it.)
- Advantages: Fast
- Disadvantages: Less accurate and longer process resulting in more chance for vote manipulation.
- Uses touch screen in an individual process. (One person at a time per machine.)
- Advantages: More accurate because of direct-recording nature and harder-to-manipulate results.
- Disadvantages: Slower because of the individual process.

Trailblazers

------------------------------------------------------------
This week at INTRICT, the discussion centered around informations systems development. Because of the wide range of topics regarding it that we took up last week, I finally understood why informations systems development is sometimes viewed as a simple process even though in reality it's as complex as anything can be. Given index cards containing information regarded as "Things that cannot be forgotten", all the discussions we had were merely a cloak for the things we learned because as we listened to the lectures, I felt that we needed to use our critical thinking so that we could get the gist of it. Unfortunately, the week was cut short because our professor was sick, we hope he gets well soon. All in all, as always, it was a productive week learning all about the world of informations systems.

This week's sessions at INTRICT put us in the shoes of modern day IT professionals. Proposing, designing as well as troubleshooting information systems, it especially showed us how tiresome and worthwhile our future jobs can be all at the same time. As a substitute for our exams this week, we had an activity where we really experienced the pressures and issues IT professionals need to address on a daily basis. For the most part, the activity was all about asking the right questions so that we could make the right information system for a given imaginary coconut juice company. While the activity was fun, what really struck me was that almost all the questions we gave at the early part of the discussion were wrong. As the week ended, I realized that instead of looking at the smaller picture, we should always look at the bigger one to become successful IT professionals. All in all, this was certainly one of the most productive weeks attending INTRICT.

A Rocket to the Moon

"3, 2, 1, Launch Off". Surely, the phrase reminds us of the ignition of a rocket. The launching of a rocket, I think, is in many ways similar to the situations we face in life. This last few weeks, something in me realized that we sometimes stray away from the things we were meant to do because of the different situations and circumstances. Problems, pressure, relationships, I think all of them contribute to blurring our vision of what we want to be, what we want to do and certainly, what we want to achieve. As a rocket ignites and goes straight to the moon, all kinds of problems often occur in the cockpit. From low fuel, energy and all kinds of things, the thing that strikes me is the never fading determination of the astronauts. With their dreams and goals in mind, they never heed away from pressure, instead they learn to embrace it to improve themselves in all aspects. I think it resembles how shall handle our goals and dreams, destiny as it is. Destiny, I think is a word clouded by stereotypical means of communications. During modern times, many of us view destiny as a thing certain, cannot be changed. While I believe destiny is true, I don't believe in the saying that we cannot change it. In fact, I think everyday, every hour, our destiny changes, but we are in control of what we path we want to pursue. There are many faults in the world today, failed relationships, marriage, abortion and all kinds of things, but the thing I realize is that we shouldn't make any of it as an excuse for not reaching our goals. Because each problem, each trial only shows us how much we want that dream, how much we value it. As millions of people stray away from the paths they have chosen, one thing's for sure, their hearts will guide them to where they really belong.

This week at INTRICT, the topic we shifted our focus on was the nature, characteristics, effects and application of modern-day informations systems. The thing most people would be surprised about is that informations systems can literally be found anywhere, be it at home, office, schools, malls and supermarkets. Simply, it is a thing that almost every enterprise is getting into with the belief of the promise of much improved company efficiency, profits and the overall company's processing flow. With each session this week, we gained numerous insights, as well as opinions, regarding the true nature of informations systems, its advantages as well as disadvantages. With the current uprise of technology in our society today, certain companies cannot be blamed when they apply IS to their enterprise just for the sake of having it, without properly educating themselves of how it may affect the company, without weighing all the pros and cons. The reality is, with the right use of IS, it can simply boost the total efficiency of the company up to the skies, but the downside of it is that, with the wrong one it can literally bring a company down to its feet, along with the economy of the whole nation. Important facts learned/gathered:
- Inverse Proportionality: (IS- Up, Jobs Available- Down): Just like stated earlier, application of IS in the wrong situations can do more harm than good in businesses as well as our society. Incompetent informations systems provide only minor improvements of a company's efficiency in exchange for a boatload of unemployed citizens.
- Application of Informations Systems: Is can be found everywhere in the world today, it is applied efficiently as well as non-efficiently. For every informations systems we see, which ones are applied correctly, which ones are not?
- Assessing Situations: Being a successful IT professional is all about correct judgement on situations, and the application of IS is a situation which requires one.

The Dripping Water

Do you remember the old adage that states, " What you see is what you get"? I find it quite ironic that even though it is indeed a saying that's quite famous, it's as wrong as quotations can get. I always considered the human eyes to be so deceiving, capable of painting imagery that are most of the time biased to the way we think. I think the eyes can only see what it wants to see, and the reality is, there are many things that we elude just so that we could paint a perfect picture for our own, and sometimes, others convenience. Treat it as a way for the human to escape reality, minus the intention. One of the most intriguing lines I have heard goes " A performance is made up of ninety percent preparation, the other ten percent, is left for the performance itself. Think of a performance as seeing the tip of the iceberg, and discarding the other parts of it submerged in water." I think the human tendency is that we value the things that we can actually see, hear or feel, but the truth is, most of the times, the tiniest of things are the ones that matter most. From the example of the components of a performance to the example of the iceberg, I think they can all be related to the main topic we discussed this week, the job of the operational and tactical manager. At first glance, we may think that the jobs are of totally different nature, without connection, but try to look and understand it more, isn't the relation quite similar to the examples mentioned?
_________________________________________________________________
All clad in business attires, surely we started of our week in INTRICT in a different note. Our first session this week started with the groups presenting their outputs and their findings on the interviews they've conducted last weekend. As each group's presentation passed, I slowly got a better picture of the the life and the job of the operational and the tactical manager. It made me realize how tiresome personnel management can be as well as showed me the numerous advantages knowing how the people around you feel in a business and a personal environment.
- The Operational Vs. The Tactical: An operational manager manages day to day activities, otherwise known as short term goals, while tactical managers worry about the long term visions and solutions.
- Company Structures: There are many kinds of structure that we could use when we build an enterprise, cost-efficiency as well as suitability are only two of the many elements for making the decision.
- Different Functional Units: We also learned about the different functional units that run a company. From the finance to the IT department, each unit contributes something essential for the continued growth and lifespan of the enterprise.

Suspiciendo Despicio

"Suspiciendo Despicio", "As I look up, I see downward", a phrase so seemingly subtle in nature, but one that has a meaning that can linger with us for a lifetime. First uttered by the Father of Astrology, Tycho Brahe, it summarizes the basic principles of modern day astrology, which is trying to fathom the deepest knowledges the earth contains through the stars and the constellations. The earth is a being so uncertain in its nature since its early existence, its skies limitless in height, its oceans' depths unimaginable and, its variety of life basically astonishing, but can we really say it can be made certain, the events that happens within predicted? For me, I personally think the opposite. Yes, some can argue that some predictions do come true, and my answer to that is, I think, anything is probable. Not possible, but probable, I think it makes such a huge difference. For every successful man, he has a counterpart, the unsuccessful one, for every good man, there is a bad one. Simply put, life simply has unlimited potential that it can be said that anything can happen, but the most important thing is consistency, and that I think, is what makes astrology falter. Astrology, or any kind of prediction, I think, is a way for people to escape the total grasp of reality. Reality, as they say, can be the most beautiful, and haunting, element of ones life. Sometimes, people turn to the slightest chances and beliefs just to let the essence of reality fade away. I personally believe that it is human nature, but whenever I think about it, I only come to another question, isn't our lives meant for us to be written, not to be read?

Week in INTRICT/ INTRICT Interview:
This week, the focus on our subject was about business and management. I was honestly surprised to see how people and technology work as one in an enterprise. It made me appreciate the business and management side of my course because the discussions made me realize that it is also a vital part of being a successful IT professional. Last Thursday, June 19, we conducted an interview for our INTRICT Project. For me, I think the whole experience was educating as well as fun. I think the most significant part of the interview is that we felt like we were looking at our future selves, we had a concrete imagination of what were going to be like when we looked at ourselves in front of the mirror five years from now. In Jun Lacson, the person we interviewed, we learned a lot about the constant evolution of the IT industry especially in our country. Starting as an IT analyst, one of the parting words he had for us was that we should be conscious, aware of the constant developments of technology and also the business side of things.

A Glimpse of the Future

Ever wondered about the future? I certainly have, from flying cars, new cellphones, new computers, and of course, my destiny. I believe each person at some point in their lives, were uncertain about their future. I for one have, and to tell you the truth, my first weeks of college have been a true testament of that. As I entered college, yes, I was excited, but at the same time came the feeling of being on the spotlight. The homeworks, activities, new experiences, I think it all contributed to the feeling of being always under pressure. Moreover, I think the most significant thing here is that maybe sometimes, we're just to scared to grow up quickly. I remember when I was still a child, looking up to my bother and saying, " I wish I was already in college, so I could do the things I'm not allowed right now." But maybe sometimes we are wrong, things don't feel the way we expect them to be, the way we want them to be, and I think it somewhat puts me in a crossroads, between the roads of "then" and "now". But as I step upon the halls of college four times a week, I think I am slowly getting a better view of college life, and my life after it. I may be stuck between two roads, I may be under pressure in pretty much everything, but that doesn't mean I have to give up. As this school week ended, I realized a saying a friend once told me, " We may not be able to predict our future, control our destiny, but what I'm sure of, is that we, as an individual, can only be sure of one thing, and that is demanding and giving the best we have to offer."
A quote for the day:
" There is no try, only do, or do not." - Yoda

My second week in my INTRICT was pretty much normal, albeit exciting ones. This weeks topics were fun for me because it gave me a glimpse of my future. Watching the video clips presented, I was excited because it presented me the true potential of technology. Seamless integration, unlimited connectivity, it made me appreciate my course more. In the near future, I can honestly say that I believe ICTM professionals will be more demanded by companies because of their very flexible and efficient skill set. Most importantly, I think this week showed me the numerous possibilities the future has in store for me, and I think I can honestly say, I think I'm pretty much excited.
Being An ICTM Professional

Doing my research about the different kinds of jobs available for an ICTM professional right now, I realized that there are many technical skills very much needed in the field. Most of all, I learned to value my subject INTPROG more because I discovered that most companies value knowledge of Java among all. Also, this activity also let me understand that being a successful ICTM professional isn't just about good skills, it is also being able to work with others efficiently. In the job requirements of the various companies I came upon, besides learning to work under pressure, they also valued a person's ability to work well with others.

A Special Kind Of Star

You know the special thing about shooting stars? I guess since I was a child, compared to other people who "wish upon a falling star", I guess whenever I see one, I am given a new life, a new hope. Whenever EVERYTHING'S FALLING APART, a shooting star guides our way back to the very foundation why life is priceless, it guides us back to love. Why? I guess it's simply what the star denotes. Have you ever wondered why whenever we see a falling star, it does not really scratch the earth's surface? I guess it is a way of showing how we shall face our problems everyday. Whenever we are in situations conveyed by a falling star, the situations in which we are falling, faster and closer to the ground by the second, it reminds me to simply fight back, never to let myself reach the ground. A shooting star will always be seen at night, it never disappears. It is like a person who lets him/herself shine in the dark, never losing courage and hope. And ultimately, like a shooting star, do not let bad experiences hinder your very goals in life if you encounter them. Like a shooting star that shines again and again through the skies, remember to always keep your head up, because one day, we will rise and shine again for ourselves, and for the ones we love.
Eclipse

Eclipses, as they say, happens whenever an object moves into the shadow of another. I thought this topic would be a good start for my blog today because it totally represents what I feel about three things, the people of today, cavemen and yes, technology. Before I start, I know most would think that cavemen and technology doesn't quite add up, but I realized something today. Cavemen are often cast in to the shadow of the people today when the topic of technology comes up. First, the definition of technology from E-Look Dictionary, " The discipline dealing with the art or science of applying scientific knowledge to practical problems." With this said, think about it, isn't the weaponry, be it clubs, slingshots or even the infamous fire, considered technology? I think it's something that could be pondered and argued about. Here is my opinion, yes, the weaponry the cavemen made in the early ages weren't as complex as say, the microcomputers we have right now, but I think it still contains the true essence of technology, which is to provide efficiency as well as productivity. Also, I think it's important that we remember that technology does not simply evolve in a night, week, month or even a year. The reason technology evolves, for me, is that it has a solid foundation which is based on the ideals the cavemen were able to put into people's minds which is the idea of always trying to improve what we have to make life better. So in a way, maybe we should thank cavemen for the computers we are using today, the cellphones, the MP3 players, and ultimately, maybe, just maybe, given the circumstances, the earliest people were and are the most technologically advanced civilization among us all.
Questions to be pondered about: (ICTM Project)
- Where else can I maximize Google and its apps for my work in INTRICT
- What are other online applications out there that similarly support my activities as a student?
- What exactly do I mean about productivity? How is productivity related to technology?
- What can I suggest to my parents to also improve their productivity?
The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory, a possible scientific explanation for what is possibly the most significant event in the universe's very long history. Rocks scattered, the space shook and ultimately, the planet we call home today was formed. Why am I talking about this seemingly pointless subject? Well, it's simply because I can't think of a better way to describe my first week in college. It may not be literally in the magnitude of the big bang, but for me, it was a milestone of sorts because I know that college is a start for a long, new and exciting journey for me. Being nervous, meeting new interesting personalities, learning something new, it was not a totally new experience for me, but instead I was glad to revisit the memories of my childhood days because it was the last time I felt something like it. I couldn't help but smile because on my first day at school, I felt like I was a child again, curious to see new things and most importantly excited to be in a whole new different situation. Like I said before, it may not be as significant as the big bang theory, but for me, my first week in college will be a memory that will stick with me like the big bang stuck through our minds until today.

Space, Stars and All Things in Between

First and foremost, thank you for visiting my blogspot. As a first time blogger, I don't really have high expectations for my blog. I tend to like things done my way, and I think sometimes, setting expectations that are so high up derail us from what we really want to achieve. My goal is not to make just a blogspot for the sake of it, I want to do something more personal, something believable, something real. This list, along with the first goal I mentioned, will be my visions, my goals for this webpage:
- To change the way present day blogs are viewed, as being only for people who have so much time on their hands, but as a hobby in which we gain insight, learn and communicate in a group of different and diverse range of people.
- Help others in general, my comments and opinions may not be always specific or right, but I remember a saying " Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." It does not command us to be boastful, but have an inner confidence that we can, and we will help others in a way, big or small.
- As a project for my INTICT course, I will strive to let others see the beauty of technology. In our society today, I believe people don't appreciate technology the ways it's supposed to. Yes, technology is not perfect and has downsides, but does it really overcome the things it is able to do for us? And regarding technology not being perfect, is it really flawed? Or are we the ones making it be flawed?
- I want my blog to be gateway for communication, I think the real beauty of blogs doesn't lie in the numerous technological advances that made it in recent years, but it lies within the blog. The real heart of the matter, I think, is the communication and interaction it provides us.
- Simply have fun. I want to have fun updating my blogs and let others have fun as well viewing them. I want my blog to be a representation of my mind.
Venturing Into Space. I know that it is somewhat awkward for a title, but I chose it simply because it can represent many things in general. Life is an adventure, we cannot be certain of anything that may or may not happen to us. As I grew up, one thing I realized is the life is a never-ending cycle. I know some may think that death ends the cycle, but I'm looking at it from a different perspective. Do you remember the time we took our first steps in our kindergarten? I'm sure we all have. Think about it, as we completed our first official weeks of college, don't you realize that we just went through it all over again? Meeting our first friends, first day jitters, and most importantly an added perspective in life. As we embark into the different chapters of our lives. I'm sure everyone will go through this cycle all over again. Finally, in everything I've ever done, I guess I can compare it to traveling into space, what does it hold? I don't know for sure. Why do I want to do it? Sometimes I don't know. But what I am sure of, is that the journey getting there, achieving my goals, will be more important than the goal and space itself.
